The Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy

There can be several factors that impede on a woman’s fertility. Misalignment of her uterus and reproductive organs is one of them. A woman’s uterus is held into place inside her pelvis by muscles, the vaginal wall and ligaments.  Uterine ligaments and muscles are meant to stretch and move, but they can become weak and loose causing the uterus to fall downward or to one side. Furthermore, intense bouncing or jerking can cause the uterus to get stuck in a tilted position or to off to a place on one side. Any sort of imbalance in one part of the body can affect the body as a whole. Not only can an off-kilter uterus and reproductive organs cause infertility, these imbalances can also cause blockages and wreak havoc on all the entire body.

The Arvigo Maya Abdominal Massage Therapy seeks to realign the pelvic and abdominal organs ensuring a free-flow of life energy and a release of emotional and physical congestion from the body. The method is non-invasive and is simply aimed to put organs in their proper place through massage.

The Arvigo Maya Technique was developed by Dr. Rosita Arvigo who, after leaving the United States, worked as a naprapathic doctor in Belize. A naprapath is someone who works with realignment of connective tissues in the human body.  She then met Don Elijio Panti, one of the last-know Mayan Shaman in Belize, and begged him to take her on as his apprentice. She spent ten years working with him learning about Mayan medicine, spiritual healing, and traditional abdominal massage. From his teachings and her experience in Western healing she developed the Arvigo Abdominal Technique.

Why is alignment of the reproductive organs so important? When the uterus is out of place, the flow of blood, lymph fluids as well as nerve impulses are blocked. This blockage can result in the collection of blood in the uterus that would normally be released during menstruation. This pooling of blood can cause cramping and possible abnormal growths in the uterus. One other important benefit of the Arvigo Maya Technique is that it repositions organs so that pressure on the diaphragm is relieved. If the diaphragm is constricted it can impede on the blood flow to the lower half of the body. This can cause varicose veins, pins and needles in the legs, and aching feet. Furthermore, pressure on the diaphragm can cause indigestion and heartburn.

What can one expect during an Arvigo massage session? It will normally last for one to two hours and will include a formal intake as well as the actual massage. A practitioner is usually trained in the Arvigo Technique and will employ firm strokes with her fingers directly on the client’s abdomen from one side to the other--easing the uterus back into position. The firm strokes are normally followed by circular strokes around the naval to almost “smooth” the surface. This sequence of firm strokes followed by circular strokes will continue throughout the massage. Sometimes the abdominal massage is accompanied by a back massage to bringing the entire pelvic region back into balance.

Arvigo massage claims to help as much as 50% of couples suffering from infertility get pregnant. One can expect to participate in two to four sessions before the uterus is fully aligned. Clients are also encouraged to practice self-massage techniques at home to further bring their reproductive organs into balance. The Arvigo Technique is not restricted to women trying to get pregnant. Being more attuned to the feelings, sensation and balance in the pelvic region, which is key in the Arvigo Technique, naturally leads to higher sexual satisfaction. The Technique is also useful for men as it betters their sexual and reproductive health and helps ward off prostate cancer.
